What is Smart Sending

Smart Sending allows the user to set a maximum threshold for the number of messages a single contact can receive within a specific timeframe


Example: Tall Bob User can configure their account to send a maximum of 4 messages to a contact within 24 hours. Once a contact hits that limit, any further messages triggered for them will be automatically blocked until the time window resets.



Enabling Smart Sending in your Tall Bob Account

To enable Smart Sending on your account, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or contact our support team at support@tallbob.com


When submitting the request to support@tallbob.com, please include the following details:

  • Account Name - The name of the Tall Bob account you wish to update.
  • Message Limit - The maximum number of messages allowed per contact.
  • Time Window - The specific duration for the limit (e.g., 24 hours, 7 days).



How it Works

Once Smart Sending is active, our system automatically monitors your outbound traffic.

  • The first messages (up to your chosen limit) are sent and delivered normally.
  • When an attempt is made to send a message that exceeds your limit, the system identifies the recipient's history and blocks the send.
  • Any message blocked by this feature will be assigned the status 'Excluded' in your reporting.



Billing and Reporting

  • Tall Bob User will not be billed for any SMS that is blocked due to a Smart Sending limit.
  • For messages sent via Platform, you may see an initial charge followed by an immediate credit for the cost of the excluded message.
  • Any costs associated with short links or URL tracking are waived for excluded messages.
  • The "Excluded" status will appear in the message_polling webhook event.
  • If you are integrated with another application, please note that "Excluded" events are generally not sent back to those external platforms.



Current Limitations

  • SMS Only: Smart Sending is currently supported for SMS messages. It does not currently apply to MMS campaigns.
  • Global Account Setting: Once enabled, Smart Sending applies to all messages sent from your account, regardless of the message category or campaign type.
